The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights calls upon the High Contracting Parties of the Fourth Geneva Convention (1949), which prohibits the destruction of civilian properties including religious and archeological sites that are a component of human culture, to pressure Israeli occupation authorities to immediately stop all actions that threaten Islamic holy sites in occupied Jerusalem. The Centre calls upon UNESCO to fulfill its legal obligation towards the protection of Islamic holy sites from IOF crimes, and to work to stop all forms of demolition and excavations by the Israeli archeological authority.
PLO: Al Aqsa Mosque in severe danger — [The Department of Arab and International Relations of the Palestine Liberation Organisation] calls Arab and Moslem populations, the Islamic Conference Organization, the Jerusalem committee and Arab organization for culture and Science, to intervene immediately and to stand against the Israeli actions and policies regarding the heritage of holy Jerusalem. DAIR urges the international bodies, especially UNESCO, to take action; the Security Council has to uphold its responsibilities toward Occupied Jerusalem and its historical sites. The international modern and free societies have a responsibility to protect the occupied nations’ cultural heritage against policies that are targeting their very existence on their homelands.
Only on our dead bodies Israel could destroy the Aqsa Mosque — Spokesman of Hamas Movement in Gaza Strip Ismail Redwan has warned the Israeli occupation government that any attempt to harm the Aqsa Mosque will certainly cause the eruption of a new “volcano” under its feet. [...] He, furthermore, explained that the declared temporary truce, although fragile, between Israel and the Palestinian resistance factions will automatically collapse if Israel inflicted harm on the Mosque. In this context, Redwan called on Arab and Muslim leaders and peoples to immediately mobilize and support the Palestinian people in defending the holy Mosque.
