Canada’s Press Release – For Immediate Release –

FOUR CANADIAN CITIES HOLD EVENTS AS ISRAELI APARTHEID WEEK GOES GLOBAL

(TORONTO, February 9, 2007) The 3rd Annual Israeli Apartheid Week, hosted in Toronto by the Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA), will take place from February 12th-17th 2007. Although the week started as a Toronto event in 2005, this year it will also be taking place in Montreal, Ottawa, Hamilton, London, Oxford, Cambridge, and New York City.

The aim of Israeli Apartheid Week is to raise awareness about Israel as an apartheid state and how apartheid affects the different aspects of Palestinian life. According to the keynote speaker of the week, Palestinian member of the Israeli Knesset (Parliament) Dr. Jamal Zahalka, “Israel is implementing apartheid policies in Palestine by building the apartheid separation wall, bypass roads for Jews only in the West Bank, restrictions on movement of Palestinians, hundreds of checkpoints, in addition to the siege and daily violation of basic human rights of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.” He adds, “Even Palestinian citizens of Israel are in fact second degree citizens that suffer systematic discrimination in all aspects of their lives.”

“The analysis of Israel as an apartheid State is spreading as people realize that this analysis reflects the actual reality of what is happening in Palestine, and not some slanderous gimmick employed to catch attention” explains Ghadeer Malik, one of the organizers of Israeli Apartheid Week in Toronto. “The fact that Israeli Apartheid Week has spread from Toronto to eight cities spanning three countries and two continents in only two years attests to the growing global consciousness of Israeli Apartheid.” — Complete Press Release

I posted about Apartheid Week a few days ago on my blog. You should read the mostly negative comments I received! Some were so nasty and filled with hate that I deleted them.

When you have a few mins. please check out my site and see what I mean. I sure could use a few supportive comments…

    regards,

    Sure will, Annamarie!

Uh, if it’s apartheid, how can there be an Arab parliament member?

    Thanks to everyone for visiting.

The Palestine/Israel conflict cannot be summarized in a few words, a few “flippant” sentences, even less in hateful rhetoric. It is my custom whenever challenged – as indeed I must (I have no problem with that) – on particular issue regarding that conflict to provide what I believe are thoughtful responses from scholars or activists who have worked in that area or on that particular conflict far longer than I have.

So here are links to documents that deal with the subject of the “Israeli Apartheid”:

Kind regards and wishing peace to everyone!

P.S. You also might want to view some of the videos that are listed on this site in the “Must Watch” section, many featuring young Israelis.

It is just astounding that lies are taken as facts. There are no “Jewish only” roads in Israel. There are Israeli only- which includes Israeli Arabs, Christians, Tourists etc.

Israel is not an Apartheid state- the country is made of a tapestry of nationalities, religions and races.

If the Palestinians are angry because they don’t full access to Israel than they should look at themselves and the concequences of the violence which they created.

I was living in Israel when it was much more free and open and I remember the stoning and first shots of the most recent intifada (I was there).

They were given Gaza and have used it to cause even further havoc and have proved – in the words of Alan Dershowitz that It is not the occupation that causes violence, rather violence that causes the occupation.

  7. SC&A Says:

    Laughable. Really, really laughable.

This drivel, coming from a group for whom ‘ITBACH AL YAHUD!’ – SLAUGHTER THE JEW! is an acceptable form of religious, social and political expression.

If you really cared about injustice, you would address the climate that has allowed for the slaughter of millions of Muslims by other Muslims.

Yes, tell us about how you care about the 2 MILLION that were slaughtered in Sudan…even as the rapes and slaughter by the janjaweed continue.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how you care about the over 100 million women that been sliced up, or about the acid attacks and honor killings in the Middle East.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how you care about the ongoing Arab slave trade in Mauritania.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us about how you care about the ongoing persecution of Christians in Pakistan that has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how you cared about what the GIA did in Algeria, raping and dismembering children- and now there is an apparent comeback by GIA.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how you cared about the forced conversion and forced circumcisions of Christians in East Timor and the ongoing tensions there.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how you care about the documented and recorded bigoted and racist ideologies that have been promulgated every day for decades in much of the Arab world.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how concerned you are about Abu Omar Al-Baghdadi, who declared how ’sweet’ Christian blood is.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how concerned you are about the UN Human Development Report that noted that Arab world education is virtually at the bottom of the barrel.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how concerned you are that yet another generation of Arabs are destined to lives of oppression and repression under some of the most dysfunctional regimes in history.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how concerned you are that Arab world dysfunctionality keeps demanding that Arabs ‘finish what Hitler started.’

When will you host the big demonstrations?

Tell us how concerned you are that Muslims have slaughtered Muslims in the millions, for decades.

When will you host the big demonstrations?

The dysfunctional, racist and bigots that are so close to your heart are blameless.

Yup, blame the Israelis, blame the Jews.

Now, let’s see if this comment is allowed to remain.

Reality can be such a pesky thing.

  8. ed~ Says:

About Reality and on who ‘belongs’ in Israel.

  9. SC&A Says:

    See this

In any event, a comparison of Israel and her neighbors will never favor the neighbors.

Be it on a social, cultural, economic, moral or ethical scale, I suggest you demure from playing the comparison game.

  10. Andy Says:

It’s instructive that not one person who has been describing IAW as anti-Semitic has cited a single example of any of the speakers saying anything that was even remotely so.
