Here’s boasting about being the only democracy in the Middle East

NOT!

In fact, this whole concept of being the only democracy and all that jazz is quite interesting.

But back to that ‘Freedom of the Press’ thingy, the prize for “Most Schizophrenic!” surely must go to my man Tony Blair who declared:

It is no exaggeration to say what is happening in Kosovo is racial genocide [...] Thousands murdered. One hundred thousand men missing [...] These atrocities cannot be seen, of course, because the Serbs will not allow journalists or TV crews to report what is happening behind Kosovo’s closed borders for themselves.BBC Online, 14 May 1999 [via Media Lens]

Among this sea of madness, a couple of sane voices:

  • Jordan recalls ambassador to Israel in protest of Gaza op
  • Irish MP Andrews calls for expulsion of Israeli Ambassador to Ireland

The World is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.

Obviously, both sides will disagree on things.

However, peace will not be found until the people of the middle east reject violence as the preferred means of communication. This means the base civilian population at some point is going to have to stand up to the thugs in their own countries.

The wrongs of the past, from either party, can never be undone. Who is going to start working on a better future?

Anyway, how about working on providing balanced informative coverage? It’s too easy to present the views of one side or the other…

I understand your concern. However, this blog was not set up to provide “balanced informative coverage” but rather to counter the unbalanced coverage in mainstream media about the conflict.

Anybody visiting can see that this blog, like many others now, is trying to give a voice to Palestine through both Jewish and non-Jewish actors.* From that, people can make up their own mind.

It is my way of alleviating the aching feelings of guilt I have in being a participant, through my government, in the atrocities and crimes against Humanity perpetrated in the region by the government of Israel. It’s not much, but it’s what I can do.

Readers are always welcome to provide different points of view in the comment section.

      * I must add that since I’m also reading about the Jewish people, Israel and Zionism, part of this blog is also dedicated to sharing what I am learning.
